I'd be happy to pay to support VLC, but the company needs to demonstrate they have a product that works, and if it doesn't, then they will provide the means to correct operational problems. VLC is a free and open source cross-platform multimedia player and framework that plays most multimedia files as well as DVD, Audio CD, VCD, and various streaming protocols. Well, it doesn't, and while I appreciate being able to continue using older versions, I find the lack of technological assistance from VLC astounding, considering the website is now pleading for financial support. I tried contacting VLC for troubleshooting or guidance, but the company has the most arcane customer service possible, and while I got a couple email replies about this issue, in the end, the support person merely claimed that VLC works fine on Mac OSX. I tried re-loading the software, to no avail (Mac scans the software, and upon trying to open, the VLC app crashes). I had downloaded and was using VLC 3.0.17 for Mac OS 10.13.6 for several months, until last year it just suddenly stopped opening videos (.mp4) files. I have used continually updated versions of VLC for Mac over the past 15 years.
